Game: St Duthus FC v Thurso FC (League)
Date: Saturday, February 25th, 2017
Venue: The Links Playing Fields, Tain
Referee: Barry Stuart
Assistants: James McMillan & Tommy Creighton
WITH just three league games remaining on the calendar, the Saints welcome Thurso to the Links tomorrow in a match that should have a significant bearing on the finishing places of both sides.
The Saints will play just their second competitive match in 2017, a stat owed to a raft of postponements after the winter break. When last they played in the league, St Duthus drew 1-1 with Alness United and with that they are currently enjoying a three match run without defeat in the competition. A win over Thurso would place them comfortably ahead of the bottom three, with just two games remaining.
The manager can look forward to a near full squad to choose from, with only the usual absentees due to long term work commitments. Paul Cowie remains the only long term casualty on the injured list. Stuart Ross and his coaching team have kept the squad busy during the first two months of this year, filling the free weeks with friendly matches both home and away and hard training sessions during the midweek.
A side that have undergone significant change, Thurso are back under the stewardship of Stevie Reid, who managed the Caithness club during their league winning seasons in 2009-10 and 2012-13. A mix of youth and experience has seen Reid's men return to good form as the season has progressed, most recently winning 6-1 against Inverness Athletic in the league, just a fortnight after a 2-1 win over Nairn County U20s in the Jock Mackay Cup.
We hope that we will see a good attendance down at the game. The weather promises to improve from lunchtime onwards tomorrow, so please come and show the lads your support if you can and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee at the same time.
Tomorrow's match sponsor is Andrew Watt, Painter & Decorator, Tain.
