Game: St Duthus FC v Alness United FC (Jock Mackay Cup 1/4 Final)
Date: Saturday, March 18th, 2017
Venue: The Links Playing Fields, Tain
Referee: Gavin Dearie
Assistants: Martin Godwin & Paul Grant
TO BE REPLAYED following a postponement a fortnight ago, tomorrow's Jock Mackay Cup quarter final cup tie will see St Duthus welcome Alness United to the Links for what should prove to a competitive matchup between two sides who have everything to play for in the competition. With the league campaigns of both sides all but decided, both clubs will be looking to round off their season with a cup run.
Despite last week's narrow defeat to Invergordon, the Saints have remained in bouyant mood and will have their eyes on victory against Alness United, having felt aggrieved not to have come away with all three points in their recent January meeting.
St Duthus manager Stuart Ross lauded the confidence in the Saints camp this week.
Training numbers were excellent again this week and everyone is looking forward to Saturday. We're still missing a handful due to work commitments, but we otherwise have a full squad to choose from.
Alness United will have their tails up, and rightfully so, after the younger quarters of their senior side captured the North of Scotland U20 league championship this past week, beating Clachnacuddin on Tuesday. A young side in general, Jimmy Stewart and Tommy Regan are to be applauded for that achievement, giving rise to the opinion that there is indeed good work going on outside of the professional ranks.
A place in the semi final away to Thurso awaits the winners, the Vikings having already eliminated league leaders Invergordon two weeks ago. In the other semi final, Orkney and Halkirk have already booked their places.
