THE AGM of the North Caledonian Football Association was held today at Brora Rangers Social Club and it was confirmed that nine teams will contest the league in the coming season -- and a new cup has been introduced to the season calendar in memory of the late Tommy Ross.
The new cup, donated by St Duthus FC and the family of Tommy Ross, will add a fourth trophy to the North Caledonian League schedule to be contested between the mainland teams in the league, with the final held in Tain.
Club chairperson Niall Harkiss, who attended the AGM, said:
We are delighted that the committee and member teams of the North Caledonian League have accepted our proposal to introduce this new cup, which we believe to be a fitting tribute to the memory of an individual in Tommy who gave a great deal to Highland football in many ways, both in his youth and in his later years. I am sure the competition will be a great spectacle for all those involved and that Tommy's family will take great pleasure in seeing the trophy contested in competitive spirit.
It is pleasing also to have a cup final to look forward to in our home town of Tain - the first of its kind for many years. The news adds yet more anticipation for the new season ahead and we now can't wait to get started.
In other news, there were no departures from the league however returning to the league are Bunillidh Thistle who will play as members of the North Caley for the first time since 2009. The Helmsdale club were given a good welcome and it was the consensus that they would be a great addition to the league.
In cup competition, two "under 20" teams from the North of Scotland development league registered for three of the cups, namely Nairn County and Elgin City, the latter having formed an U20 wing of their own for the first time.
