Game: St Duthus FC v Inverness Athletic FC (North Caledonian League)
Date: Saturday, September 2nd, 2017
Venue: The Links Playing Fields, Tain
Referee: Chris Macleod
Assistant referees: Fraser McAra and Daniel Jack
THE WAIT for the Saints' first competitive game of the season is over. Tomorrow St Duthus shall welcome Inverness Athletic to the Links for the curtain raiser in the Macleod & MacCallum North Caledonian League for a midday kick off.
The Saints and Athletic have undoubtedly been the most active teams in terms of friendly matches during the pre-season. Inverness have played four times during the summer break, recording three wins against Dornoch City, Forres Mechanics U20 and Balintore Welfare, losing only to Contin. The Saints have played five times, twice against SPFL U20 opposition, most notably recording an impressive 5-3 win away to league rivals Alness United. Both teams have strengthened ahead of the new campaign with new signings and will be keen to show that 'season season improvement'.
The continuation of the North West Sutherland league has unfortunately caused St Duthus some difficulty for this opening weekend, with several players missing due to remaining summer duties. Despite this, Stuart Ross has been pleased with his side's preparations ahead of the season.
"Each of our friendly matches during the summer provided a stern test for our lads, with some performances that have been greatly encouraging, and the application shown in training has been equally pleasing."
As ever, our tea hut will be stocked with an excellent selection of pies courtesy of Sweet Celebrations, along with teas, coffees, drinks and snacks. We will also have a special edition 28 page full colour match programme on sale.
