Game: St Duthus FC v Halkirk United FC (North Caledonian Cup Semi Final)
Date: Saturday, January 13th, 2018
Venue: The Links Playing Fields, Tain
Referee: Gordon Morrison
Assistant referees: Daniel Jack & Malcolm Macleod
FOR the second time this season, Halkirk United will visit the Links to play St Duthus. The last time around it was on league duty and the Saints recorded a 3-0 win -- repeating their home result against the Anglers from 2016-17. It will be up to St Duthus to keep that good record going against their Caithness counterparts if they want to secure a place in the North Caledonian Cup Final.
For what will be St Duthus' first home game of the new year, Lewis Ross and Sam Beeston remain absent due to work commitments, while Ewan Ross is still on the injured list. Adam MacDonald is a returnee though, having recovered from his September ankle injury. The squad trained in record numbers on Wednesday night and were in great spirits following last week's victory over Bunillidh Thistle.
Speaking today, Stuart Ross lauded the mood of the squad:
"The boys all trained well and have definitely worked off the last of any turkey. We'll be looking to make the most of home advantage on Saturday, and we hope that we can pick up where we left off in Helmsdale."
Opposition wise, if results are anything to go by, Halkirk United have improved their form somewhat. Despite a stuttering start to this season's campaign, they won 5-2 against Nairn County U20s at Morrison Park in the quarter final of this competition last month, which suggests that they have found their shooting boots.
As ever - for this important game we would like to ask all supporters to please spread the word that St Duthus are playing in a semi final on Saturday. The more support we have at the game the better - we know that the lads really appreciate it.
Kick off is at 1pm. Hot food, teas and coffees will be on sale as usual, along with a match programme.
