THE SAINTS U17s' chances of a first season Jewson Shield Final appearance were ended last night with a 3-2 defeat to Wester Ross at the Links.
A solid first half performance saw St Duthus take a two goal lead into the break. An excellent save from Aneek Khan in the early going prevented a Wester Ross opener when he tipped a curling effort onto the crossbar. With twenty minutes gone though, Aidan Stainke added the finishing touch on a Keir Carson cross to make it 1-0 for St Duthus. Five minutes later Scott MacIver made no mistake with a good strike to double Saints' advantage. The Saints continued to threaten as the half progresed and could have added to their tally with some more composure.
It looked as though the home side may go on a bit of rout as the second half continued with St Duthus dominating, but a defensive slip allowed Wester Ross to score on the counter with twenty minutes remaining. A frenetic final five minutes saw the visitors eventually equalise before notching a winner two minutes from time.
