U17: Wester Ross 1 St Duthus 3

ROUNDING off their summer season in the Ross-shire Youth League last night, St Duthus U17s made sure of a 3rd place finish in the league table with a comfortable 3-1 win over Wester Ross in Gairloch.

Keir Carson opened the scoring for St Duthus to continue his recent scoring form. For the second, a surging run from Kenny Patience was brought to a halt when he was felled in the box, leading to a penalty award. Taylor Anderson then secured his place as the team's top scorer with a coolly taken spot kick into the bottom corner. The home side pulled a goal back from a corner to reduce the deficit, but the scoring was rounded off by Keir Carson, netting his second of the evening with around 20 minutes remaining to ensure Saints took home the victory.

Clear of Wester Ross in the league table, the Young Saints go level with Dingwall on 7 points but sit just behind them on goal difference. Dingwall still have a game remaining to play versus Alness United and the outside chance remains that a win for the already crowned champions could see St Duthus creep into the runners-up spot.

Overall, the win made for a happy ending to a campaign which has been all about squad building, enabling our coaches to get a good look at all the players available to them ahead of the club's much anticipated first season in the Highland Youth League. 21 players took part over eight games, with six matches played in the league competition and a further two being played in the Jewson Shield and League Cup.
