Game: St Duthus FC vs Inverness Athletic FC (Macleod & MacCallum North Caledonian League)
Date: Saturday, September 22nd, 2018
Venue: The Links Playing Fields, Tain
Assistant referees: Anthony Grant & Colin Macdonald
INVERNESS Athletic are the visitors for the Saints' first home league game of the 2018-19 season tomorrow as the lads look to get back to winning ways and shake off the recent run of away defeats. The fixture is proving to be something of a tradition for St Duthus, playing their opening home game against Inverness - and in 2016 and 2017 at least, the result has gone their way. Here's hoping for more of the same tomorrow!
There are absences aplenty to contend with -- a problem which has quickly become a theme this season. Manager Stuart Ross has resigned himself to the rebuilding job that now lies ahead following several player movements and further injury setbacks.
Speaking after midweek training, he said:
"It's important for us to use these games as an opportunity to get the guys who are new to the club playing together. We've had a good week in training, albeit in poor weather conditions. They turned out in good numbers and the spirit has been good in the camp but it's unfortunate that we'll be quite short on bodies for Saturday. We welcome back Liam Rostock, and Scotty Miller is expected to be back in action, but it is likely that we'll have a good few trialists turning out as we look at some new faces."
"The opposition today, Inverness, are in a similar boat to ourselves as they have lost some big players - but Shane Carling is a manager we know well, and he has assembled a strong squad that will be well drilled. They got off the mark with a good win against Halkirk last weekend and will be looking to continue that momentum."
Athletic come into the game on the back of a win over Halkirk United last week and they will be keen to keep that momentum going - it will be up to Ross's hopefuls to stop them in their tracks.
The game kicks off at 2.30pm at the Links. We encourage everyone to come along to support the lads as they look to record their first points of the new campaign and make it 3 out of 3 at home to Inverness.
