Game: St Duthus FC v Thurso FC (Macleod & MacCallum North Caledonian League)
Date: Saturday, October 13th, 2018
Venue: The Links Playing Fields, Tain
Referee: Gavin Dearie
Assistant referees: TBC
BACK on home soil, the Saints continue their pursuit for their first points of the season as this weekend they welcome Caithness contenders Thurso.
There won't come many better chances to climb the league than to play a team with only one point on the board - and owing to a stuttering start and the distraction of the Football Times Cup, the Vikings have yet to record a point in the league since their early season draw with Orkney. A win for the Saints tomorrow would help them jump above Stevie Reid's side.
Training was attended well during midweek and manager Stuart Ross is looking forward to seeing how his more experienced Saints side tackles the prospect of Thurso on Saturday.
"This will be a tough match. Thurso are always difficult opponents and are always challengers for the honours at the top end of the table. We've asked our lads for a response and we got it during the week at training. They've taken everything we've thrown at them and we had a very good session. They can't wait now to get out onto the pitch to kickstart a turn in form."
"We're looking to field a more experienced side peppered with some youthful energy, and we're excited to see what the boys can do."
Saints are expected to be without Barry Kenny, while new signing Matty Shewan faces a late fitness test following a heavy knock last weekend. Alan Geegan is expected to return to the squad.
Little is known about the Vikings' squad availability for Saturday, but regardless of league position, Thurso always come to Tain well prepared for the task at hand and will go into the game as favourites against a St Duthus side in desperate need of a change in fortunes.
As usual, teas, coffees, pies and snacks will be on sale at the Tea Hut along with our match programme.
