Playing for the first time at Ardersier's Cromal Park, St. Duthus rounded off their pre-season with a 5-3 win on Thursday evening.
St. Duthus threatened from the get go, and Ben Bruce had a shot saved which prevented a goal in the opening minute. About five minutes into the match though, Cammy Mackintosh found Ben Bruce through on goal who made no mistake at the second time of asking, rounding the keeper and chipping the ball into the net from 12 yards. The hosts shot back almost straight away to level at 1-1 through Richard Boyd.
Shortly before the quarter hour, slick one-touch passing play from Saints saw Jake Lockett play the final ball for Scotty Miller to put Saints back into the driving seat. Soon after Mackintosh played provider again for Bruce, and the Saints forward man made it 3-1 with a clinical left foot finish.
Undeterred, Ardersier reduced the deficit with an opportunistic effort from Ben McPherson on the half hour mark - but the writing was on the wall in a first half which belonged to Saints. Ben Bruce notched his hat-trick on 38 minutes tapping home the product of a great passage of play involving Mackintosh, Lockett and Trialist.
Jake Lockett added a fifth to put the game beyond sight for Ardersier two minutes before the break.
The second half was a much quieter affair and as Saints went about their business comfortably, the only goal of note came from an Ardersier trialist on 50 minutes.
