St. Duthus have secured the services of left back Mikey Rae for the coming season, joining Craig Munro as the latest Saints recruit to move up the A9 from an abeyant Alness United.
His move follows interest from clubs in the North Caley and the Highland Football League, as he leaves Alness United for the first time since coming through their youth levels. A Football Times Cup winner last season, the 24 year old also finished as United's top scorer in all competitions with 12 goals - an impressive feat for a predominantly defensive player - and he has designs on making a big contribution with Saints. Speaking today, he said;
"I'm very much looking forward to the season ahead. St. Duthus have assembled a good squad that will hopefully be capable of pushing on winning trophies."
Rae is expected to feature in manager Stuart Ross's plans as soon as this Saturday's home game against Thurso.
"Andrew and I are absolutely delighted to bring Mikey in. There were times during the latter part of the summer when it seemed a million miles away from happening but fortunately for us, in the past two weeks communication has re-opened and we are buzzing to be able to bring a player of Mikey's calibre. He's a big, strong physical player who has a great appetite and engine for getting up and down the park, and he'll be an important player for us this season."
