St. Duthus' attentions now move on to the second cup competition of the 2019-20 season and with that comes the introduction of a new format for the Football Times Cup. The North (Caithness and Sutherland) and South (Ross-shire, Inverness and the Western Isles) regions will meet in separate groups this season -- and St. Duthus will open their account with a trip to Invergordon to play their closest rivals in what will be the second Easter Ross derby of the campaign.
The short Football Times Cup group phase shall be a case of winner-take-all with very few points to play for across the three region based games. Those competing in the South group (Invergordon, Saints, Inverness and Lewis & Harris) can ill-afford to drop any points if they aim to finish first to secure their place in the January final -- and for that reason, many will be looking at the form guide expecting St. Duthus or Invergordon to emerge as favourites, adding another level of importance to this tie.
Saints will have to cope with a handful of absences once again with Ross Tokely, Scott Miller and Mikey Rae all remaining on the absentee list. Striker Ben Bruce is still a doubt but new signing Dean Allison is expected to be available for selection, along with the returning Charlie Macdonald.
Ahead of the game, manager Stuart Ross said;
"We expect a tight game and for Invergordon to be looking to put one over on us after our game in Tain earlier in the season. We were superb that day, fully deserving of our win and they'll naturally be bang up for it and aiming to put that one right. Our boys are ready though, have trained well and we'll be at it from the first whistle."
The game kicks off at 1pm at the Recreation Grounds in Invergordon.
