The Island select of Lewis & Harris come calling tomorrow (Saturday) as St. Duthus look to confirm their place at the top of the Football Times Cup South Section in a game that could see them secure a place in the final, should results elsewhere go their way.
The sides' only other competitive meeting took place over two years ago. Played at the Links, the game also took place in the Football Times Cup, ending 2-1 to the Western Isles side on that occasion. Turriff United striker Angus Grant was the star of the show that day, netting the opener before Angus Macdonald extended their lead. Jon Campbell netted the reply for Saints.
The outlook for tomorrow's South Section tie, though, is an altogether different one two years on, with St. Duthus currently leading the North Caledonian League and sitting top of the South Section of the Football Times Cup. Having lost to Orkney in the Jock Mackay Cup, Lewis & Harris's only other action this season has been against Inverness Athletic a fortnight ago, when they recorded a penalty shoot-out win over their hosts at Inverness Royal Academy.
Now under the leadership of Eric Macleod, not much is known about the Island select other than the widely shared expectation that they will be a tough prospect, as they always are. Needless to say, Saints will have to be up to the job if they want to secure the full three points.
Not many changes are expected to the starting eleven who were successful at home to Inverness last weekend. Craig Munro will make his return following injury, while Stefan MacRitchie is expected to miss out. Also returning will be Scott Miller, Scott Maclean and Finn Macleod, while Danny McCarthy is also set to be involved again with John Allan unavailable.
