Games don't come much bigger in the North Caley than a festive derby match between two teams fighting for top spot in the league -- as St. Duthus and their closest rivals Invergordon will both attest as they go head-to-head for three vital points on Saturday.
It will be the fifth time that the Easter Ross derby has been played in 2019. St. Duthus have taken the plaudits in three of those encounters so far, with Invergordon's only win coming at the end of the 2018-19 campaign in the semi-final of last term's Jock Mackay Cup. The most recent meeting took place in Invergordon with Saints securing a narrow 2-1 win in this season's Football Times Cup South section. The term "narrow" well describes the difference between the sides over the past year, as manager Stuart Ross stated in his midweek comments about the game.
"This is a big game for us. We've had a few games against Invergordon this year, but it's been very close. There's never normally much between us, and we expect the same again on Saturday. For us, it's just good to be getting back to playing after the festivities. We have kept the boys sharp with some training either side of the short break and they have all looked in good form. We can't wait to get going again and continue our run."
St. Duthus are expected to be at full strength for the game with no injury concerns or suspensions to speak of, and will go into the match with the momentum of seven consecutive league victories in their favour.
Playing with home advantage, Invergordon will go into the game with the favourites tag, and with a handful of December additions made recently, manager Gary Campbell will have more options at his disposal as he aims to field a winning team.
The game kicks off at 1pm this Saturday at Invergordon's Recreation Grounds. Please come along and show your support for the Saints for what could be a pivotal game in this season's title race.
