In a close fought battle at King George V Park, St. Duthus were beaten 3-2 by the home side Golspie Sutherland, and were left to rue missed opportunities in front of goal.
Ally Macleod gave Golspie the lead in only the second minute but just over a quarter hour later Saints were back in it when top scorer Ben Bruce fired home his 16th goal of the season to make it 1-1. Bruce later put St. Duthus into the lead after being fouled in the box, then converting from 12 yards on 41 minutes with a well taken penalty kick. The lead was short lived though as Liam Bremner rose to nod home a corner one minute before the break to level the scores.
The second half was goalless until the dying stages, but it wasn't for Saints' lack of trying as Golspie's Graeme Williamson put on an inspired display to deny Ben Bruce on several occasions as Saints tried to retake the lead. The killer goal arrived at the other end in the 86th minute though when substitute Eoghann Davie fired into the corner to score a late decider for the Sutherland side.
The teams will meet again in just one weeks time at Dudgeon Park in Brora in the final of the Football Times Cup.
