Game: St Duthus FC v Alness United FC (League)
Date: Saturday, January 21st, 2017
Venue: The Links Playing Fields, Tain
Referee: Chris MacLeod
Assistants: James McMillan & Daniel Jack
THE VISIT of Alness United marks the Saints' first home game in over 12 weeks. When last St Duthus played at home they welcomed Orkney on October 29th, and since that time they have played no fewer than ten games of football away from home. Despite the travel, they have experienced an upturn in form, winning four from their last five games. They now look to translate some of those performances on the road to the games on their own patch.
The manager has a near full squad to pick from on Saturday, blighted only by the absence of Barry Kenny due to work commitments, while Liam Rostock and Alan Davis remain unavailable for extended periods due to travel abroad. A double training session this week has seen the squad put through their paces though as they anticipate Saturday's game.
Last week's postponement due to frost has meant that the Saints will have to wait until this weekend to play their first competitive match of 2017, while Alness United's U20 squad, with whom most of the first team also play, took to the field against Clachnacuddin in midweek, for what would have been a healthy workout at Grant Street Park.
Despite sitting at the bottom of the league table, Tommy Regan and James Stewart's side have recorded some impressive results this season, drawing with reigning champions Halkirk United, while also beating North Caledonian Cup finalists Golspie Sutherland.
A home game has felt like a long time coming during the winter months, and we're glad that we will finally be able to welcome everyone back to the Links. As usual, we will have teas, coffees and snacks on sale, as well as soup for the first time - and our usual half time raffle will take place, as well as the sale of a match programme.
Saturday's Match Sponsor is Tain Joinery & Carpentry.
