A product of the Brora Rangers youth system, Jon worked his way up through the U13, U15 and U17 levels at Dudgeon Park, eventually joining the first team at the end of the 2012/13 season. At the same time, Jon played for Golspie High School and the North of Scotland Schools' select team, most notably winning the National Trophy at U15 level in 2011. At the young age of 15, Jon picked up his first senior accolade as a substitute for Brora Rangers in the 2013 North of Scotland Cup Final.
After leaving school, Jon traveled to West Virginia in the United States, where he completed an Associates Degree while playing for Salem International University. Upon his return to Scotland, Jon turned down opportunities to return to the Highland League in favour of signing for St Duthus in October 2016.
Jon's performances at centre midfield earned him the runner-up trophy for the club's Player of the Season award at the end of 2016-17, and for the following season he was appointed Matchday Captain. Often playing with guile and self-assurance well beyond his years, Jon possesses sound technical ability and frequently shows flashes of quality that is rare to see at this level.
