The first cup final of the 2019-20 season is top of the billing for the coming weekend as St. Duthus and fellow finalists Orkney face off at the Recreation Grounds in Invergordon to decide this year's winners of the Jock Mackay Memorial Cup.
The teams' last meeting in this same cup final took place at the very end of the 2016-17 season, which served as an emotional finale for Saints at the conclusion of their revival campaign. Orkney emerged winners by the narrowest of margins with a 2-1 penalty shoot-out win after the teams finished level at 1-1 come full time. Stuart Ross's St. Duthus side will be looking to make amends for that cruel twist of fate tomorrow.
St. Duthus go into the final on the back of a 7 game winning run. They secured their place in the final having defeated Bunillidh Thistle, Halkirk United and Inverness Athletic on their way. They also find themselves joint top of the Macleod & MacCallum North Caledonian League with neighbours Invergordon, giving the Tain side their best start to a season in many years.
For Saints, the squad is looking strong with Reece Paterson and top scorer Ben Bruce among those set to make a welcome return. Manager Stuart Ross keenly awaits a good contest between the sides, which he believes Saints are more than capable of winning.
While they have only played six games thus far, Charlie Alway's Orkney are undefeated so far this season and they will be looking to cap off their great start with some silverware, having finished trophyless in 2018-19. James Pickles shall be a noted absentee for the Island side as he serves a one game suspension for his dismissal against Golspie a fortnight ago.
The game kicks off at 1pm at Invergordon's Recreation Grounds. Penalties shall separate the sides if scores are level at full time.
