Thurso 1 St. Duthus 2

Saints got the new year off to a winning start with a superb 2-1 win away over Thurso today. It was a day of firsts for the club, with two players grabbing their first goals for the club - but also for St. Duthus overall who ended a 24 year hoodoo by recording their first ever league win over the Caithness side.

There were only a couple of changes from the last outing Saints had back in December. Paul Gair returned from injury to replace the absent Ross Tokely in midfield, while John Allan made a welcome return between the sticks in place of stand-in Justin Rogers. New signing Stuart Mackay took a place on the bench after joining last week, as did the returning Sam Ross and Adam Allan.

The home side took the lead midway through the first half but a goal from Paul Gair five minutes before the break made it honours even at the interval. A clever chip from the midfielder left the goalkeeper helpless as the ball cannoned off the crossbar and Gair was quick to the second chance nodding it home.

The second half was fiercely contested but ultimately an expertly taken corner from Daniel Christie found the head of Duncan Davidson who netted the winner with around ten minutes left.

A big win and a huge three points as the club push for a top half finish.
