Nairn County 4 St Duthus 2

Saints' midweek visit to Station Park had a 'testimonial' feel about it as the home side pulled out all the stops to bid farewell to reserve team manager Stuart Finnie, who is stepping aside as Nairn County 'A' manager after several years.

County named no fewer than nine first team Highland League players in their sixteen man squad, providing Saints with one of their toughest tests of the season to date. Meanwhile, Ben Bruce made his first team return for St Duthus, taking a place on the bench. There was also a place in the starting lineup for U18 graduate Harry Spence, who slotted in at centre half next to Will Ross.

John Allan was tested earlier on with a good stop required to prevent Stephen Rennie from scoring from six yards. But he couldn't prevent Tyler Eadie, who was later that evening named as Nairn A's player of the year, from opening the scoring after seven minutes. The midfielder turned quickly to find space before lashing a shot into the far corner from the edge of the D.

Rennie was unlucky again moments later when his shot from distance hit the upright.

Saints were undeterred though, and they equalised on 32 minutes. The goal came after some excellent work from Adrian Voigt in midfield playing Shaun Marshall through on goal who laid the ball to Bradi Hulme for a simple finish.

Parity lasted just two minutes though as a poorly dealt with throw-in into the box left Kenny Macinnes with a clear chance to score, firing into the net from 18 yards.

Highland League regular Sam Gordon then scored the goal of the game with a stunning drive over Allan from 25 yards out, finding himself in bags of space before pulling the trigger.

Saints pulled the scores back to 3-2 on the hour mark though, when James Mackay hit a wicked free kick from 30 yards out, leaving on loan Inverness Caledonian Thistle keeper Lewis Munro with no chance.

But the game was ended as a contest on 75 minutes when Owen Macdonald was played in on goal for a simple finish, just inside the box.
