Orkney 5 St Duthus 3

St Duthus suffered a disappointing end to a goal-fest after a long trip over the Pentland Firth to meet Orkney.

Saints went in at the break with a 3-2 lead thanks to an own goal, a goal from Thomas Lewis and the third from John Maclellan.

A fine finish from Lewis cancelled out a fourth minute opener from Orkney's Gregor Dowell on 14 minutes, hitting a first time volley on the end of an Adrian Voigt cross to net his sixth goal of the season.

The goal moments after Jack Wardrop had hit the crossbar during a frenetic opening spell.

Saints then took the lead via a Wayne Kirkness own goal when the defender divered a Jack Wardrop cross past his own keeper.

It was 2-2 seven minutes before the interval when Chris Simpson levelled, but superb long ball from Jamie Skinner found John Maclellan in an advanced position for a clever finish just a minute later, making it 3-2.

The Tain men held the lead for most of the second half, but conceded their lead with 25 minutes left as Orkney drew level with an Owen Young shot from outside the box.

With several players struggling with cramp and tiredness, Orkney emerged as the more dominant side for the final quarter hour and unsurprisingly took the lead on 85 minutes through Dowell.

With Saints needing a late leveller, they eventually capitulated as Orkney scored in 94th minute to round off the win and take the points.
