Saints accept Geegan resignation

St Duthus FC have reluctantly accepted the resignation of first team manager Alan Geegan.

His departure, confirmed today, brings an end to three seasons he spent in charge of the club.

First joining Saints as a player in 2018, Geegan made 40 appearances for the club, earning a Football Times Cup winners’ medal in 2020, before his appointment as first team manager in September 2021.

In his first season, he led the side to North Caledonian Cup glory, winning the trophy in a memorable 1-0 win over Halkirk United at Dudgeon Park.

In 72 games, he has since steered the club to three consecutive top-half finishes in the North Caledonian League, maintaining the club’s most consistent win percentage since the 1980s.

Club chairman Niall Harkiss said: “On behalf of the committee and playing squad, I would like to thank Alan for his time, commitment, and efforts over the past six years.

“On a personal note, I wish Alan all the best in his next steps. He very much deserves the opportunity. Throughout his time as both a player and a manager, he has been an exemplary representative of St Duthus FC and a pleasure to work with. He will certainly do well at the higher level.

“For St Duthus, he wore the club on his sleeve, and his investment in the club’s goals was clear for all to see. We wish him the very best.

“Our search now begins for a team manager to lead our existing young squad in to the 2024-25 season.”

Alan Geegan said: “I want to thank Niall and the committee for having the trust in me to take over from Stuart and for all the support. I also want to thank the players for all their efforts and everyone who worked with me in my time.

“I have enjoyed almost every minute of it and none moreso than winning the North Caledonian Cup in my first season.

“All three seasons have resulted in top half finishes along with two cup final appearances, so hopefully the squad stick together and push on.

“It's with a heavy heart I leave the club but I have a fantastic opportunity to test myself at a higher level and I now look forward to the challenge.

“I will be supporting from afar and the club will always have a special place in my heart.”

Applications for the post of first team manager are now being invited via email to secretary@stduthusfc.co.uk.
