John Mac appointed

St Duthus Football Club are delighted to confirm the appointment of John Maclellan as first team manager for the 2024-25 season.

The 30-year-old takes the reins at Saints having played for the club since 2022.

PE teacher John made his debut in the North Caledonian League at the age of just 16, and became a regular for Tain Thistle FC before moving to Dubai where he also competed at amateur level.

He returned to Scotland two years ago, joining St Duthus and becoming head coach at Tain Thistle FC, leading them to the North-West Sutherland League 2 championship in 2023.

John takes on the role of first team manager at St Duthus with immediate effect.

On the appointment, John Maclellan said: “I’m delighted to get the job and really looking forward to getting started.

“This is the town I grew up in and it means a lot to me, and I am very proud to be given the responsibility of representing St Duthus Football Club as the manager.”

“Taking on this commitment is coming at a good point in my own life, as I personally feel very settled and happy at the moment and am in a good head space to give this everything.

“Having just played two seasons with St Duthus I know first-hand how much the boys care about the club. I’ll do everything I can to do right by them, the board and the fans.

“We have a cracking group of boys all pulling in the same direction and I want to harness and maximize that energy going forward to bring success to the club.”

The new manager is expected to confirm his coaching team in the coming weeks.

St Duthus chairman Niall Harkiss said: “We are delighted to confirm John’s appointment today.

“John brings a level of commitment, passion and enthusiasm to the club that will be of great value to the club. Having started playing his football here as a young boy, for him to now be leading the way for the next generation as one of its senior figures is really admirable.

“He knows this squad well, and we are excited to see what he can do in a leadership role. As a committee, we are committed to matching his determination to do well, and we are confident that his belief will carry throughout the squad and lead to success. We wish him all the best in the role.”
